Break From Normal

January 3, 2014

Just a mere two weeks ago, I was sweating it. Two weeks without structure, without a schedule. I didn’t think we had enough play dates scheduled. I was concerned that we’d spend our entire two weeks shuffling between the gym and our house, completely stir crazy.

Boy, was I wrong. Low and behold Adam’s entire office shut down. Coming off of our ten day Disney jaunt, I have had the better part of two weeks with him home. This has afforded us the chance to do all the fun family staycation sort of things – bowling, museums, movies, etc.

My children have actually been able to see a relaxed, happy side of me (you know the side of me that isn’t so consumed at balancing all three that I am no fun). I have been able to enjoy all the many sides of their crazy ages. I just realized what a person Drew has become, complete with legitimate conversations and realistic thoughts. Gabby says the funniest things when she’s not attempting to murder my baby and I’m finding that I’m able to be silly right along with her. Noah is actually switching into a toddler before my eyes – complete with a (limited) vocabulary!

It’s not that these people (including myself) aren’t like this in our normal scheduled life. It’s that the hustle and bustle is so crazed that it’s hard to thoroughly enjoy it all. The logistics are so challenging, managing the trio is so difficult and we are all different in those constraints.

These two weeks have literally been bliss. I shudder at the thought of it coming to an end (maybe it’s just these arctic temps). I know once we are in the midst of it, our scheduled life, it will just be life as normal. But for now I want to put the brakes on my shuttle service, the mad rush between schools and activities and the daily responsibilities. I just want to enjoy a few (not enough for my liking) final days of movie nights, fun outings and my empty fridge 🙂
