The things we do to look pretty…

Disclaimer: I realize I’m anal retentive

In true parental ritual, shoes were purchased at the beginning of the school year. These shoes were important to me because you look at them for quite awhile on your kids. Last year was the first year Drew’s feet stopped growing at lightening speed and he spent quite a long time in his gym shoes. They held up rather nicely through all the wear and tear a little boy puts on them.

Since he has leveled off, I thought it was a good idea to get him a couple of shoes this time so he could switch off. And being vain, as I am, made me really want to get cool shoes. Perhaps I might have been better off going with some less attractive, less expensive shoe that was proven to hold up. But what’s the fun in that?

Not even one month into school and his shoes are more or less holding up. Picture doesn’t quite grasp scratches in the front from climbing every surface around or the layers of dirt and dust from the assortment of baseball fields and sandboxes.

The real kicker, excuse the play on words, are Gabby’s shoes. She just started walking and barely even uses her legs, let alone her insanely attractive new kicks, and they are in BAD shape! She does not scale buildings, she does not slide into first base, and she certainly does not kick every object that will (and some that will not) move. What does a girl need to do to get a pair of shoes that can keep up with a stylish little 14 month girl?!?!

We got MAYBE 10 wears out of these suckers!

After only one wear!

Fortunately the fashionista still has these in relatively decent shape!

I’m thinking the moral of this story is to stuff your kids’ feet into something that fits that’s under $20 and call it a day. Of course that doesn’t mean I’ll actually do that because fashion always overrides function!!!

  1. Stride Rite outlet is where you should go for Gabby. Good quality shoes that can be cute at super cheap prices.

  2. Thanks so much for your kind words re: Mommy Masters! I have two little boys and they each have one pair of sneakers and one summer shoe. In the past, they had multiple sneakers, dress shoes, etc. and they never wore them. They are only allowed sneakers at school so it doesn’t really pay to buy multiple pairs. I like sketchers and if you can find them at discount stores, like Burlington, they are a great deal. If you buy from the store and let’s say the lights break (my kids insist on light up shoes), they will replace, even without a receipt, even if you bought them a year ago. If I had a girl though, wow-that would be tough. How do you not go crazy with cute shoes? I would buy silver, gold, white, black, sneaks, etc. LOL. Thanks again for your support!!!
