Is this the hill to die on?

June 17, 2011

With all these new toys and all these great clothes, every morning has been a fight over Drew wearing his most favorite, highly worn sports paraphernalia. What happened to boys not caring about clothes? What happened to comfort when playing being kids’ number one priority with garments?

When we were opening his presents, he opened a White Sox outfit first. As we continued to open presents, he kept begging to put the White Sox outfit on. Sporting equipment, Cars characters, board games all pushed aside for a White Sox outfit.

I appreciate Drew’s spirit and tenacity but this is becoming an obsession. How do his parents keep their position as head decision maker when Drew’s strong will can withstand the test of time? His determination, insistence and commitment towards wearing what he wants consistently challenges our threshold.

Is this the hill I want to die on? I constantly think about that question. Months ago I felt that what he wears was not a hill I wanted to die on. However after months of Fukedome jerseys, Soriano t-shirts and D Rose sleeveless shirts, I just can’t take it anymore. What’s a girl gotta do to get her three year old in a nice polo shirt. Heck, I’d take a Cars t-shirt 🙂
