We have recently added to our family. With my job ending, I’m losing some perks of my job including my company car. As Adam and I planned how our family is going to weather this change, we started discussing what vehicle should replace my current one.
A couple of months ago I got rear-ended and my rental car was a minivan. Previous to this experience I thought that I would never own a minivan. It does more for the image rolling around town in a large, expensive, gas guzzling SUV than a minivan. However, this experience with the rental van was very enlightening. The comfort of driving a minivan, which in fact drives a lot like a car, was unbelievable. Managing the countless bags, strollers and junk was so much easier. When the two weeks were over, I sadly gave back the van.
As we weighed our options for vehicles it became incredibly apparent that a minivan was the way to go. A couple weeks ago, Adam and I trekked out to Milwaukee in search of a great Internet deal. Somewhere around midnight and a lot of money later, we rolled out of the dealership in our very own minivan!
The minivan has already done us well – fitting an abundance of birthday gifts, a train table and countless other things. There’s enough seating for grandparents to ride along and room to scoot up the seats from a three year old that likes to kick.
I may not be the most stylish person in town riding around in those wheels but I sure am comfortable. I guess it’s just another way I’m embracing the fact that I now am a full time mommy. And at a red light when I pull up next to a young thing in a sporty car, I have to accept the fact that I’m no longer going to get the eye from him. Maybe it was Adam’s way of tightening the reigns or maybe it’s just time I accept that I am a mom through in through.
