Where do I sign up?

March 2, 2011

Over the last couple of months, Adam and I have been checking out all the local gyms and getting passes to work out there. We currently belong to a Bally’s Health Club which is pretty bare bones but has the machines that we need. As we experience a wide range of health clubs, we are starting to get more and more accustomed to nice locker rooms, new machinery, advanced group class schedules, etc. This weekend we ventured back to our gym to be even more disappointed by the below average work out environment. It made me feel like I should have never looked at the other gyms because how am I ever going to be satisfied with our current work out center? I think this story is the case with so many other things in life. If my mom hadn’t raised me with so many nice things and such a nice life, I would feel satisfied with less. Instead, I only want more. Every generation before generally achieved more than the generation before them did. Now, however, my generation is fighting to achieve what our parents achieved which was only available through hard work and dedication to being fiscally responsible. I don’t want to take the long way there; I want to be there already. I don’t want to have to downgrade from the life I was raised in. I think this is the problem with my generation as a whole. We want it all and we want it now. Plus, I was raised to believe that that’s what I deserve. I was raised to respect myself and think that I’m worth something…unfortunately that worth doesn’t come with a price tag. How am I supposed to go back to running on the rackety, run down treadmill at Bally’s when I glided over the smooth machines at Lifetime? If I wait until I have worked my whole life for those luxuries, can I even appreciate them at that stage? I’m ready for my life in the fast lane to start today. How come these health clubs didn’t give me that enrollment form? Where do I sign up for that?
