Three Year Old Devil

February 4, 2014

The first time around I thought it was all me. If I weren’t a working mom, if I were less intense, if I didn’t yell so much…yadda yadda. Well this is no longer my first time at the rodeo and now I know who is completely responsible…

I have learned one thing from my experience of parenthood (hopefully I’ve learned more than one thing), three year olds are jerks.

Omg, did she really just say that?!?! Um, yes and if you think I’m wrong then you should spend a day with mine.

But the really great thing is that I also learned that it doesn’t last forever. I never thought I’d live to say that Drew is rounding the corner and becoming a real mensch (“a person of integrity and honor”). I mean he’s not out researching the cure for cancer or anything but he’s exhibiting real signs of being a halfway decent person.

And maybe I’m heartless in saying that my three year old is a jerk because she certainly has (some) redeeming qualities. The pain and agony of trying to get her to do something she doesn’t want to do (which is just about everything) is almost worse than any punishment I could think of.

The worst part of it all is that someday I’m going to look at a little three year old girl and want to cry because I miss mine. Now who’s the real jerk here???
