NAPS!!!!

July 11, 2013

Why is it that every two/three year old reaches a point where their brain says “no, I don’t need a nap today” but their body says “YES, I need sleep!!!”

When Drew finally gave up his nap, he never looked back. He would destroy his room and disturb his sleeping sister, so it became clear cut that “quiet time” would have to be in the family room. It seemed as though the only things that would tame the wild beast were tv and iPad, so I succumbed. And never in the time without naps has he fallen asleep while watching tv or even slightly dosed. No camp day was long enough to drive him there, no play date was busy enough. He clearly does not need his nap, as much as his mother would like him to.

For the last year, Gabby has at times been completely devoted to her nap and other times been resistant to sleeping. On the days where she doesn’t sleep…well, I don’t want to turn this into a horror movie. This girl needs her nap. So why on a day full of camp (fun in the sun, running around in multiple outfits, adorning a crazy hat for crazy hat day) would she fight it so???

Was she afraid that I wasn’t making nap time enough of a priority? Does she blame me for making Drew’s camp pickup time at 2:45? Is she thinking that I have mastered juggling three well behaved kids so well that I need an extra challenge?

Who me? This little angel???

To my Princess, to my right hand girl, I say…if you don’t sleep on a camp day EVER AGAIN…you, my darling child, are relocating to the curb with a friendly sign that says “Free, No returns.”
