It was bound to happen. I guess it could’ve been worse? It wasn’t like I forgot him in a hot car or something really dangerous. He was left in good hands, but it’s the fact that I totally 100% forgot!
At Drew’s t-ball game, Gabby booked it to the park. Despite efforts to scream for her to stop, she continued with her own agenda. Adam was coaching the game and completely focused on the team. I headed out after her. I tried persuading her to go back to the game so we could watch Drew. Never in that entire absence from the game did I realize that I left my baby asleep in the stroller completely unsupervised. Are you kidding me?!?!
When I returned he had awoken and was crying while a mother was rocking the stroller. Um…yeah, I booked it after my toddler leaving my baby completely unsupervised. I TOTALLY have my act together…NOT! Mother of the year right here! If I thought my life was cool, calm and collected before, I’m totally convinced now!
And then I realized. You know those kids that you look at like, “where the hell are your parents?” or “are you raised by a pack of animals?” You know what I’m talking about. Well, I now get it! Those kids are the third child in their family. Their mother is so spread thin that they literally can’t keep tabs on all their offspring. It’s almost as if they are raised by a pack of animals because their household pets have a larger influence than their parents. Pretty much Noah is screwed!
At the end of the t-ball game, Adam was yelling at Drew for having a hissy fit over standing in the “pitcher” spot. Gabby had a meltdown over there not being enough snack for her. I looked at my itty bitty baby and realized that I have a chance to actually do it right. I have a chance to make sure he’s not a competitive nut or a kid who is set off by practically everything. So if I can manage to keep him top of mind, maybe I can actually have a kid who grows up to be a well behaved little thing.
So the next time Gabby takes off, I’m gonna say sionara sista. The next time Drew follows his own agenda, I’m gonna say adios amigo. I’m putting complete and total stock in the forgotten, the third.
