Best Friends

December 17, 2012

I have collected friends from a variety of different places in my life. Recently I went to the wedding of a friend from preschool. Now that I have these little offsprings that are starting to develop relationships of their own, are they going to someday be attending each other’s weddings?

It’s no surprise that Drew has developed some close friends in the course of his formal education. Plus, all the friends that he has from our friends’ kids that he has been playing with his entire life. But seeing Gabby form attachments to people she has met is so adorable since she has yet to start school and is a mere 2 years old.

Gabby is engaged in a severe mutual love affair with (conveniently) Drew’s best friend’s (from school) younger sister. The intensity of their relationship is more than I expected for two year olds. They cry for each other if they don’t get to see each other often enough. They cry when separated from each other after seeing each other. Who am I kidding, they cry when they are together because they want to play with the same toys too. It’s a highly emotional relationship.

I’m sorta getting the feeling that although there will be many relationships in both of their lives to come, there’s none like your first. These little ladies are happiest when together and you can’t deny that kind of two year old love. Not to mention, their love affair is a joint admiration for dressing up in princess costumes, pushing baby strollers and holding hands. These are all things I understand.

The big brothers, on the other hand, have a foundation based on wrestling, playing Super Mario Brothers or shooting things while being superheroes. That’s a little harder for me to wrap my head around. It’s love in its own right, I suppose.
