Oh the joys of TV

October 5, 2011

Sadly, one of my most favorite ways to relax is watching tv. So with the fall comes the new programming. Playboy Club, which I did not watch, was cancelled so it made me think of what new shows I absolutely love. Top three shows of the season…

1. Up All Night

What parent can’t identify with this show?! Not to say that it fits exclusively with parents because the subject matter and chemistry of the ensemble is so relateable regardless if you are a parent. The humor of a morning hangover with a baby, trying to look cool for your neighbors or being sexy in comfy clothes is universally understandable that you can’t help but find yourself cracking up.

2. New Girl

The beauty and quirkiness of the main character, Zooey Deschanel is notable. The situations the group finds themselves in is all too familiar for my age bracket but the awkwardness and humor is once again universal. It’s also refreshing to see the silly character as a girl. Unlike Modern Family and Up All Night where the quirky characters are both men, Zooey pulls it off incredibly well. I’m eager to see how these relationships continue to develop. I somehow manage to laugh a ton and feel good inside at the end of every episode.

3. How to Make It in America

HBO did it again. It’s perfect how all of us Entourage groupies can just slide over to this show and feel somewhat satisfied. My only frustration is that I missed the first season. Apparently it premiered in February of 2010 and didn’t get the greatest reviews. Now it’s getting prime time marketed. I feel relatively caught up, which doesn’t say much about the first season. It is, however, interesting and I’m looking forward to where it goes from here.

Thank goodness these shows are back…

1. Glee

How can anyone not love this show? With all the craziness of the characters, complexity of real life circumstances and grace in the way all of it’s pulled together in song form. It seems to me that this show is going to be a show to depict a generation. I just love it!

2. Parenthood

The emotion and story lines of Parenthood are so real, so poignant and always leave me wanting more. I love the cast, I love what they are up against, I love the relationships, I love that I cry every episode.

3. Boardwalk Empire

Last season we spent the whole time debating how we felt about Boardwalk Empire. As the season ended, we loved it but not in the same way we loved The Sopranos. This season has started with such punch, I’m obsessed. Steve Buscemi could be the best actor in the world. I’m so engrossed by all of the story lines that I spend the whole time hoping it never ends. If you like the roaring 20s, prohibition, gangsters, or really anything in between, you will LOVE this show!

Guilty pleasures, let’s forget I ever mentioned…

1. Gossip Girl – Wish I could say it was just for the fashion, but it’s not.

2. Ringer – I blame a friend for suggesting but I’m on the edge of my seat!

3. Vampire Diaries – If you like True Blood and Dawson’s Creek, this is the show for you. And yes, it’s perfect for those Twilight fans too.

4. Jersey Shore – This could be the funniest season ever, or maybe I have officially lost enough brain cells to appreciate.

I clearly watch WAY too much TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
