Utopian Vacation

June 12, 2011

It’s very infrequent in one’s life to be in a place of complete and utter utopia. Of course I have moments of sheer happiness but complete and utter utopia requires your brain and all emotions to be completely involved in the one thing you are doing. And being a complex individual, such as myself, it is very difficult for me to be one hundred percent wrapped up in any one thing.

Well it happened today…complete and utter utopia. I was in an all encompassing state of glee. Last minute Drew explained to us that he would have the opportunity to participate in a ceremony that the school has on Fridays (Shabbat) because his birthday is on Sunday. Since he explained this to us the morning of the festivities, both Adam and I told him that we would be unable to make it. Like an act of G-d, the world aligned in such a way that we were able to go.

The thrill Drew had with us being there was exhilarating. The excitement he exhibited by going in front of his peers was contagious. And to make the experience even more worthwhile, Gabby became involved in the ceremony and it was wonderful watching her grow into her personality. The whole experience was fabulous. The thought that I may have missed it because of work, reiterates the value of my decision to quit.

I will remember this day for a long time. And when I’m home caring for my kids and at my wits end, I’d like to visit that place of utopia…even if it’s just for a brief vacation.
